This is a total shot in the dark, but are there any Catholic writers lurking around these fora who live in or around Iowa City? I've been thinking about getting a very informal Catholic writers' workshop going, where we could discuss our work as Catholics... You'd think such a writing-oriented town would have its share of Catholic writers, but I only know of one other one in town.
(...Aside from the spirit of Flannery O'Connor, but she just doesn't give very good comments, God bless her. So I don't think I'd invite her to a workshop.)

Bedefan,
I happen to live within driving distance of Iowa City (about 3 hours) - but I presume you want someone within walking distance....
All the same, good to know you're in the area....In case I ever make good on my threat to host a DP workshop/seminar/colloquium/convention down here on the farm.... Not sure what I'll call it, really.

Well, all told, 3 hours ain't bad. It's closer than Chicago.
In like manner, if I ever get a group going here (my dream would be to get something sustainable going that would outlast my time here, a permanent Catholic toehold in the Iowa City literary landscape, maybe bring in a speaker once a year or semester, which could I suppose be an occasion to visit...) I will certainly give you a headsup.
