Spotted on ZENIT this morning: "International Contest on Poetry and Narrative 'Crossing the Threshold of Hope': A Tribute to John Paul II." Here's the link: www.zenit.org/article-21494?l=englishAnd source site: www.agendaitaliana.it/There are categories for religious poetry, regular poetry, regular narrative, and nonfiction essays. Submissions should be unpublished (this much I gather with the help of my trusty sidekick, the Italian-English dictionary). Is anyone handy enough with Italian to translate the rest of the submission requirements for the rest of us?

My Mom "gave it a go," as she says:
The works can be presented until February 28, 2008 Poetry and works inspired by John Paul II and to his concept of hope. With this idea was born the "Contest of International Poetry and Fiction 'Beyond the threshold of the Hope', tribute to John Paul II". The award is dedicated to John Paul II and inspired by the last Encyclical of Benedict XVI, "Spe salvi". The competition was instituted by the Center of Studies, "Vintar" for Culture and Communication, a cultural association that has the objective of contributing to the study and the spread of culture and communication. The organizers would like to promote the reflection, by means of meditations and teachings, on hope in the pontificate of John Paul II and continued in the last Encyclical of Pope Benedict XVI. The publication of the " Spe salvi " and the necessity for "a serious study" of it "impelled the Center of Studies to propose this award as a cultural reflection". The award is arranged in three sections. The first bases itself on the poetry of religious inspiration. The participant will present a poem of, at the most, 30 verses of religious inspiration that should be sent off via e-mail to the address poesiareligiosa@email.it The second block will be dedicated to unpublished poetry. The participants will present a poem of a maximum of 30 verses inspired by human values, to mail to poesiainedita@email.it For unedited narrative poetry, the participant will present a story inspired by human values or a story for children. The work should not exceed 10 pages, which one should mail to narrativainedita@email.it One is permitted also to present graduation theses. In order to participate in this section, the contestant will present a thesis that is literary, philosophic, historical, scientific or theological in character, which should be sent to tesidilaurea@email.it It is possible to participate in all the sections, and being an international competition, works will be accepted in foreign languages. tesidilaurea@email.it Each author should send together with the written works a resume containing the following information: scholastic formation, profession and any prizes already obtained. The works should be sent off only until February 28, 2008 via electric mail. In all of them, it is necessary to indicate at the foot of the page, the first and last name of the author, telephone number and email address. The awards, inspired by John Paul II, hope "to continually stimulate the cultural commitment to be incisive and give savor to society".
