Holy Innocents Imagine an old Zoroastrian priest Sponsored in his youth by hometown merchants to tread thousands of miles by caravan, a fellow traveler of scorpions and snakes, to find the King of Light. Now an old man in his water garden, Guiding aspirants along the shinning path, He declares his hard earned wisdom: I have learned two things The first principle is Seek and you will find - But this leads only to handfuls of fragments, Splintered pieces of stained glass. The second principle springs from the first - Intention is an illusion, a dark spell, A shifty merchant playing a shell game whose end is to keep things moving along. It has little to do with what happens. We journeyed to find him who was to come And what did we find? A baby in a barn. We were nearly home when we heard the news that our journey was to blame for the death of all those children in Bethlehem.
