In the words of one of my friends, "Allow me to point, no, DROPKICK you in this direction." In the words of the info page: The Southwell Institute is a non-profit organization, incorporated 2004, named in honor of St. Robert Southwell, S.J., an Elizabethan priest, poet, and martyr. The mission of the Institute is to promote the Catholic arts, especially the literary arts. Our first objective is the establishment of a summer literary workshop for young, traditionalist Roman Catholics. In the future, we also hope to establish a journal and a press dedicated to the Catholic arts. Our belief is that the arts can both strengthen and rescue souls. ....
We hope to create a supportive environment for aspiring writers that will eventually lead to a Catholic literary revival. Fifty years ago, Catholic writers like Flannery O'Connor, Walker Percy, Graham Greene, Evelyn Waugh, and others were making serious contributions to both literature and the Faith. Nothing like that exists today, and we would like to encourage interested young Catholics to make it happen again..... well, I would argue with the assumption that NOTHING is happening in that direction. It sounds like they need to be made aware of us as much as we need to make them aware of us. southwell.evansville.edu/index.htm

Well, they're right in saying that it doesn't yet exist. But we can give them a call after you win the National Book Award! Seriously, though, Mary actually attended last year and had a great time. She took the opportunity to spread the word about Dappled Things among the attendees, several of whom have made submissions. I've actually been thinking of going this year, but I think they want to concentrate exclusively on playwriting and I don't know if that's my thing. But maybe. Do you think you might go?

I already printed and filled out an application, heheh. When I first started college I thought I was going to major in theatre, and you know, if the Muse calls I'm open. Anyway, I saw this and was very excited -- it's always good to know you have friends and allies. Now to work on that National Book Award...
