I think I'm in love with Ralph McInerny. If his wife ever leaves him, I hope somebody will let me know. I suspected a strong crush after The Red Hat, and now after The Third Revelation, I'm pretty well convinced.
I'm glad I'm not seeing so much of the belly-buttonholing nowadays about What Is Catholic Literature. I'd much rather see Ralph. By the way, in case anyone ever makes the mistake of thinking this man is simply a Paperback Writer, check out his CV on the Notre Dame site, Maritain Center page--just google Ralph McInerny and choose the appropriate site to get his CV. You will get a lesson in humility better than any sermon could provide.
McInerny writes popular fiction--not to be confused with commercial fiction. And neither of those is to be confused with literary fiction.

You know, with me it's kind of the opposite: instead of thinking about him as a "Paperback Writer," I always thought of him as a famous Thomist philosopher. It was quite a surprise to me the first time I heard that he also wrote mysteries, and that in fact he was famous for his Fr. Dowling series. Unfortunately, I've never had the chance to read any of his fiction yet. What's a good title to start with?

The Red Hat. Do not expect profundity, only fun.
