The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is soooooo not worth watching. Quite possibly the worst action movie ever. You know it's bad when entire improbable scenes seem to have been written solely to create an excuse for a particular one-liner. Which turned out not even to be funny.
To make up for it, I'm hoping to manage to see Of Gods and Men one of these days, and Cristiada when it comes out. Or maybe on Netflix.
Anyone seen anything good lately?

Friends don't let friends what The Mummy.
I've soooo been wanting to see Of Gods and Men, but my wife and I have not been to the movies in about a year (since the baby was born). I'm wondering how Cristiada is going to turn out. I was so enthusiastic about There Be Dragons when I first so the trailer, but then I went to a screening and it was a tremendous disappointment.
And if you don't mind me changing the topic: I'm wondering if anyone might be interested in getting a Plato book club going. I've been reading his dialogues this year and I'd appreciate having someone to discuss them with. Currently I'm on the Phaedo and have rather conflicting thoughts about the discussion there. While I agree with some of the main points, I'm also a bit surprised by how "Eastern" the Socrates in this dialogue seems to be in certain aspects.

I actually really enjoyed the first Mummy movie. I like action movies that don't try to be anything otehr than action movies--The Mummy, Die Hard, The Fifth Element. There's a good story, and some pretty special effects. Plot and spectacle, and Aristotle would say. Not much thought, diction, character, or song, but you can't have everything. And the movies that know they haven't got anything, and know better than to take themselevs seriously--I enjoy those. But I also own the entirety Highlander: The Series on DVD, so my judgment is suspect.
The last movie I saw in a theater was Slumdog Millionaire, and my husband was not present. My mom watched my son (who was an only child at the time) while my brother and I went. And I don't get TV reception in my neighborhood, so the fact that I know movies even come out anymore is something of a miracle.
Re: Plato. Can't say I've had much interest in reading Plato since I finished college. Also, I'm not very good at reading on a schedule right now. So I'm probably not a good choice for the book club. But it sounds good.

As long as we're talking about terrible sequels...truly there is nothing more wretched than Alien vs. Predator: Requiem. 90% of that movie is filmed in pitch black with an occasional Alien tail flying around. It's amazing how such a simple formula (Two races of terrifying aliens duking it out for supremacy) can be botched so horribly....TWICE!
Please.........tell me you never watched Highlander: The Source.
Despite not going often, I've had a good recent track record with movies. The Coens' True Grit was quite good (I still have a slight preference for the John Wayne version), and Source Code was great. Michelle Monaghan was "meh", but the rest of the cast was excellent, including the minor characters.
