Has anyone seen this movie yet? I had great hopes for it (I liked the idea of it being "a bedtime story") but Rotten Tomatoes gave it a terrible rating.
Critics have been known to be wrong before, though, so if anyone can give me a good excuse to go please let me know!

No, I haven't seen it yet, but it's getting a thrashing by the critics and that's always a good sign to me. They also thrashed "The Village" which was a problematic, semi-sappy movie, but really beautifully rendered in parts. A sense of child-like wonder is not in with the critics or audiences right now. Hardcore, realistic special effects are.

I wonder if that is the problem, though. I trust Steven Greydanus's opinions quite a bit, and I don't think he's lacking in childlike wonder, and he gave the movie a "D" grade. He suggests the movie itself is lacking in childlike wonder, as for example, the whole reason that the lady in the water comes to our world is to help this writer who is destined to inspire a new political movement or something of the sort. Even if the political movement is a noble one, how is that childlike???
Again, I haven't seen the movie, and would love it if anybody can give me an excuse to go see it, but at the moment, I'm not sure if it will be worth it after all.

I have a friend who went to see it, and he loved it, if that helps.
